The Year of the Horse May Spotlight: Barn Life Stress
Meet Chanterelle Belle, our May Year of the Horse winner. At 19 years old, Belle faced a major life transition: moving to a completely new barn with unfamiliar routines, herd mates, stalls, and turnout spaces. For many horses, that adjustment can be stressful, but it carried an even deeper layer of anxiety for Belle.
After a traumatic starting gate accident during Belle’s track days, confined spaces and unfamiliar environments have always been especially triggering for her. Wanting to make the transition as smooth as possible, Belle was started on the StressLess® loading dose before the move and then transitioned onto maintenance.
The results were almost immediate.
“Sometimes the smallest signs of calm mean the most,” said Belle’s owner, Sydney Salle. “The biggest change for me has been in her eye—that softer, calmer expression that tells you they’re truly feeling more settled.”
Adjusting to a new environment, making new friends, and settling into a new routine became much easier for Belle, all while bringing tremendous peace of mind to her owner as well.
Calm doesn’t erase a horse’s past. It helps them feel safer in the present.
