Suzanne LaPorte is the owner of Suzanne LaPorte Dressage, a dressage training and sales facility in Ocala, Florida. She has dedicated her career to supporting horses, especially those coming from challenging backgrounds or intense training programs. She often works with imported horses or those whose training was rushed, leaving them mentally stressed and overwhelmed. Suzanne emphasizes creating a calm, supportive environment to help these horses regain confidence and enjoyment in their work.
Her philosophy is simple: horses are living beings, not machines. She focuses on helping them find happiness and willingness in their training. “The only way we can create Grand Prix horses that can carry us and be successful is for them to be happy and want to do it,” she explains. One of the most powerful examples Suzanne shared involves a 13-year-old warmblood with an extraordinary past. Before coming to her, he had a massive career as a top-level show jumper, winning 1.45m speed classes under the lights in Wellington, Florida, and competing internationally. His job had always been strenuous, demanding, and mentally intense, but he gave everything he had, every time, with a huge heart and a deep desire to please his rider.
By the time he transitioned into Suzanne’s program, the mental wear of that high-pressure lifestyle was clear. He was talented, but tense. Willing, but overwhelmed. His mind was still living in the stress patterns of his past career. With the help of StressLess®, that began to change.
